Despite that, ALL NEW NEIGHBORHOODS come equipped with NPC (non-player controlled) Sims that can be used as friends, lovers, and so on.īut we're not interested in that yet, are we? We need to make a Sim, and to start that process, click the Families button in the Universal Control Panel (UCP) in the bottom right corner. Check out the before and after pics here.Ĭreating a Sim To assist in the guide, Pyroville already has a number of active (i.e., playable) families populating it that were created prior to the start of the writing of this guide. In time you can make the same neighborhood look, if not more realistic, then a lot more interesting. You can choose from rocks, trees, rainbows, fauna, and such. To do that, click the Decorations button in the UCP. A few buildings, but what else? The nice thing is, you can further customize your neighborhood by adding Decorations. When you're all ready to start, click the Play button at the bottom of the screen.Īs you can see, the neighborhood looks pretty barren. Click the picture itself to bring up a description of the neighborhood that you can edit. You can actually rename it simply by changing its text box below the picture. So once you've got a neighborhood ready, look at it in the selection. A little self-serving, yes, but there it is. You can make your own custom neighborhoods via that game if you own it too! We won't go into the details of that until MUCH later in the guide, but yes, it is possible.įor the purposes of this example, we created a neighborhood using the Pleasantview template, and named it Pyroville. Those are the same files that cities are saved under in SimCity 4. If you think the SC4 extension of the files looks familiar, you're right. Again, the choice is a purely cosmetic one. An icon there will let you create a neighborhood from a template SC4 file, although you can further customize it to make it desert or grassland landscape. To do so, click the right pointing button that's to the right of the video of Veronaville. No matter what neighborhood you have, its personality is determined by the Sims that inhabit it, not the other way around.īut the game just doesn't feel personalized unless you create your own neighborhood. None of the three has a distinct advantage or disadvantage. The game ships with three neighborhoods that are presented to you from the beginning: Pleasantview, Strangetown, and Veronaville. But even before that, you've got a small choice to make.Ĭhoosing (and/or Creating) a Neighborhood Everything has a beginning of course, and you can't start a Sim's life without making the Sim first.
